Hello, massage enthusiasts!
It’s Grant here from Deserved Massage. This morning, I felt inspired to share some reflections on how and why massage therapy achieves such transformative results—whether that’s easing muscular tension or helping to gently untangle the mind.
Now, while I do own and run Deserved Massage, I’m not a therapist myself. I won’t claim to know the intricacies of anatomy, but I’ve had the privilege of experiencing countless massages from the talented therapists who bring their expertise to Deserved Massage. So, I’d like to offer my perspective on why this therapy feels so powerful.
The Universal Issue: Tension in Mind and Body
We all experience tension. It manifests in our muscles, tight and sore, and in our minds, wrapped up in stories we tell ourselves. These stories can be vivid and emotional, while our tense muscles make movement painful and energy feel blocked.
During a massage, your therapist isn’t just pushing, pulling, stretching, and kneading your body; they are, in essence, guiding your attention to areas that have been holding on to stress and discomfort. It’s as if the therapist’s gentle touch is saying, “It’s okay to let go.” And with each careful motion, you find yourself softening, physically and mentally, into a state of acceptance.
The Subtle Shift: Accepting Tension to Release It
What I’ve come to understand is that a massage doesn’t directly “fix” us; rather, it allows us to become more aware of what our bodies and minds are asking for. In the process of accepting this tension, we start to release it. We’re healing ourselves through increased awareness and by allowing ourselves the space to simply be.
As you lie on the table, relaxed under the therapist’s care, you may notice thoughts coming up—perhaps memories, emotions, or old stories, both positive and challenging. It’s a gentle moment of self-reflection, a chance for these tangled thoughts to surface and drift away as your focus returns to the present, to the sensation of the massage itself.
Emerging from the Experience
When the treatment concludes, I often feel more grounded, less weighed down by whatever may have been troubling me. My body is relaxed, my mind is clearer, and I am more present—still here in the now, a little lighter than before.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope this insight gives you a new appreciation for what massage therapy can bring into your life. If you haven’t already, I look forward to seeing your name on our calendar soon.
Warm regards,
Grant Finlay
